What is the Quran?

The Quran is the literal word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad over 23 years. It is the primary source of Islamic guidance.

Revelation

First revealed in the cave of Hira through the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). The Quran was memorized and written down during the Prophet's lifetime and compiled into one book after his death.

Structure

114 chapters (Surahs), 6,236 verses (Ayahs). Arranged mostly by length. Recited in Arabic in prayer worldwide. Translations exist in every major language.

Preservation

Allah promised to preserve the Quran: 'We have sent down the Reminder and We will preserve it.' It remains unchanged for over 1,400 years — the only scripture with this level of preservation.
